Welcome to Badgers class!
In Year 2 we aim to make all children feel safe, secure and confident both in their learning and in their school life. We want our children to leave Key Stage 1 feeling happy, independent with high expectations. We aim to achieve this through a wide curriculum which incorporates challenges, diversity and fun at the same time!
This page will keep all of you up to date with new events and information about homework, the curriculum and other exciting things that you might need to know about.
Thank you for supporting our learning. We hope your child enjoys Year 2 and continues to build their learning journey.

Days to remember!
Outdoor PE day is Tuesday
Indoor P.E day is Wednesday
Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit. This consists of navy or black shorts/tracksuit bottoms, a white or navy t-shirt and trainers for outdoor P.E.
Please ensure you label each item with your child’s name to prevent items being lost.
Our library day is on Friday
Please ensure you child returns their library book to school every Friday so that children can swap it for a new book.
Learning at home
Handwriting is a key priority for KS1 and on our return to school we will be teaching handwriting daily. Please support your child with the correct handwriting at home too.
Weekly spellings will also be posted on dojo. Children will be encouraged to read the words, practice spelling them and applying them to sentences. Children will be quizzed on these words on a Tuesday.
Children will be given one other piece of homework every Friday which they can complete in their homework books. Once children have returned their homework book (by Thursday) they will be given a stamp in their planner.
Reading is very important to us at Northfield and we recommend that all children read every night. All children in KS1 are still on the read, write, inc programme and they will take part in daily reading sessions in school to support their reading. Each child is assessed half termly and these assessments determine which colour group your child is at and which learning group they will be in the following half term. They will regularly bring a reading book home and other reading resources such as words or sounds to learn. We ask that you spend at least 10 minutes each night reading with your child. When children are ready to come off the read, write, inc programme they will start to use accelerated reader and they will be part of a comprehension group daily to boost their knowledge and understanding of what they have read. We hope you will support us with your child’s reading by engaging in reading tasks at home.
Here are our seven golden rules all children must follow.
- We always do our best
- We follow instructions straight away
- We are kind
- We keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves
- We look after our school and environment
- We take responsibility for our own actions
- We move sensibly around the school.
The children will earn stamps in their planner when they are seen following these rules consistently.
